Fix Sharing Folder Problems Between Windows 7 And Windows XP

Problem :

At past, I had two machines running on windows xp with share folders connected with a router 'BRL-04UR'. Recently, one of the os has been changed to windows 7 and another remains windows xp.

Howerver, when I want to setup the share folder, I find problems. At windows 7 machine, it can see windows xp machine (named LAI) at network. However, when I double-click the icon, Windows cannot access '\\LAI', and after pressing 'diagnosis', it said ' DNS server has no response'.

At another side, windows xp machine can also see windows 7 machine (named User-pc). However, when I double-clicked the icon, it also said that 'cannot access \\User-pc, you may have no premission to access ....'.

Solution :

Here are a few suggestions on fixing this issue.:

1: Did you try running the Network Identification Wizard located under the Computer Name tab of the Advanced System Settings? Try running that, restart your PC, then try accessing the XP Computer.

2: You mentioned something about the DNS server having no response. On the System Properties of the XP computer, got to the Computer Name tab and click on the Change button. Just to be sure, double check and make sure that both computers say WORKGROUP. Then click on the More... button and type in the same computer name under the Primary DNS suffix. Check the box that says 'Change my Primary DNS suffix when domain membership changes'. Restart the computer then try accessing it.

If you still have trouble, try setting it up with a different workgroup name or a different computer name.
